Woking Welcomes Local Heroes
Woking Borough Council will grant the resident McLaren team free reign of the town's streets on Sunday, in a gesture of congratulation following its world championship success.
Mika Hakkinen will drive into town at the wheel of his title winning MP4-13 as Woking celebrates McLaren's achievement of winning both the Drivers' and Constructors' crowns in 1998. The occasion re-creates Alain Prost's drive along the Champs-Elysee following his 1993 championship triumph for Williams and Renault.

(This is an exceptional chance for local residents and Formula One fans to welcome McLaren and Mika back to their home base here in Woking,) said Les Pescodd, chairman of Woking council's policy and resource committee. (We are delighted to have the opportunity to honour them in this way.)
McLaren boss Ron Dennis was also grateful for the opportunity, enabling him to thank his staff and the local community for their support. (A celebration in our home town is a fitting way to mark their tremendous achievement,) he said.
