Now Jacques Attacks Lack Of Lick

Having derided Bridgestone's latest offering, 1997 world champion Jacques Villeneuve is now complaining about the lack of speed in Formula One.

(It's not going to change much,) Villeneuve said about the addition of a fourth groove to the front tyres, (I don't know why we have the extra groove. I'm sure we will end up going at the same speeds as last year, but last year wasn't fast enough. You're part of Formula One, and it's great, but it's just not fast enough to make you feel like you're doing something really special.)

The Canadian's outspoken comments have already landed him in hot water with the FIA - the sport's governing body - and the brash entrance of his new team, British American Racing, has also irritated those involved in the sport, but Villeneuve seems determined to speak his mind.

His views were echoed by F1 returnee Alex Zanardi, but the Italian at least tempered his opinion with an understanding of the FIA's intentions. (It is not going to make a big difference,) said Zanardi with regard to the extra groove, (but if you leave [the attempt to reduce speeds], the following year [they] go to 360kph and then 400kph, and then it does make a difference.)
