Proposals for an Irish Grand Prix have been greeted with caution by team boss Eddie Jordan, who believes that the idea could be a victim of possible F1 calendar changes.


Whilst welcoming the advances of motorsport in southern Ireland, Jordan has warned that the event may never get off the ground because of the current move to include more non-European races on the grand prix schedule. The Irish native also questioned the decision to construct an all-new venue at Goff, close to an existing facility at Mondello Park, following the purchase of land by property developer Jim Mansfield.


"It would be unbelievable to have a grand prix in Ireland," Jordan said, "Some years ago, we never thought we'd have an Irish team, and we never thought we'd have an Irish driver. Unfortunately, the way things are going in GP racing, [the calendar] seems to be levelling out more globally, and there are already eleven or so races in Europe."


"It also seems strange to build another track virtually on the doorstep [of Mondello Park]. When I was growing up, Mondello was a shrine to me, as it was the stepping stone from karts to Formula Ford."
