Benetton Escalates Motorhome

Although British American Racing has already hit the headlines with details of its new "super-motorhome", it was Benetton which created the first stir among paddock regulars.


The Enstone team used the first European race of the season at Imola to unveil its new hospitality unit, stunning grand prix followers with its sheer size and opulence. Thirty feet of covered space was provided by linking two 40ft motorhomes with a central structure, itself raised some four feet off the ground. The unit has a beech effect floor, and houses more than a dozen beech table and chair sets, and will comfortably house the number of guests expected by the team at each event it attends.


BAR, meanwhile, was forced to postpone the arrival of its two-storey, terraced unit because of a backlog at the painters! Despite a budget rumoured to exceed ?2million for the project, BAR was unable to find a paintshop with suitable space that did not already have work in progress.


While it waits, BAR is having to make do with a reliveried Tyrrell motorhome. The new unit is now scheduled to appear in Barcelona next month.
