F3000 team European Edenbridge Racing has one eye on a place in the Formula One paddock, following its move into new premises.

The team - which was known simply as Edenbridge Racing before the involvement of airline magnate Paul Stoddart - has just taken possession of a purpose-built facility in Ledbury, Gloucestershire, and is confident that the base is at least as good as those used by F1 teams. The factory includes a 50 per cent scale wind tunnel, which was earmarked for the Tyrrell F1 team before its sale to British American Racing, and would help Edenbridge build its own cars should it decide to graduate.

Stoddart's company, European Aviation, formerly sponsored Tyrrell, and has assisted Edenbridge in hiring British drivers Oliver Gavin and Jamie Davies for its F3000 campaign this season. Stoddart himself owns a collection of Tyrrell F1 cars, which he runs at historic meetings.

"We're an F1 team in waiting," Stoddart said, "Our team would be absolutely perfect as a joint venture partner in grand prix racing."
