Silverstone/monza Testing - 2 June 1999.

Testing for the Canadian Grand Prix continued apace, with teams divided between Silverstone and Monza.

Those who opted for the British venue were hampered by some traditionally poor summer weather, which restricted running time and prevented quick lap times. Johnny Herbert came out on top for Stewart, but only after the teams had been restricted to an afternoons track time by squalls. An all-British top three was completed by David Coulthard and Damon Hill for McLaren and Jordan respectively.

Williams, Sauber and Prost, meanwhile, opted for the warmer climes of Monza, hoping to finalise their set-ups for the similar low downforce Montreal circuit next weekend. Ralf Schumacher, fresh from his fifth place finish in Spain lead the way for Williams, from Jean Alesi's Sauber. Alex Zanardi continued to struggle, however, and could only manage fifth best time behind the Prosts of Jarno Trulli and Stephane Sarrazin.
