Ballast Ballot Leads To Metals Ban.
The use of metal in the underbody planks of Formula One cars is to be banned with immediate effect.
The move - instigated by the sport's governing body, the FIA - follows the recent exclusion of Rubens Barrichello from the Spanish Grand Prix after stewards decided that his plank was not safe. The Brazilian's Stewart team, in common with many of its rivals, had been using metals in the underbody plank to lower the car's centre of gravity while simultaneously meeting the minimum 600kg weight limit.

The FIA decision has been supported by several teams, many of which were concerned that a grey area in the regulations was being overly exploited.
