Prost Nears Peugeot Deal.
According to sources close to his team, Alain Prost is close to signing an extended deal with engine supplier Peugeot.
The agreement between the two parties has been the subject of much debate, with rumours that Peugeot were about to forsake Formula One to return to rallying, and that Prost had another engine supplier lined up to replace its current partner. Now, however, it would appear that a new deal is imminent, despite continuing suspicion that Peugeot is unimpressed with Prost's performance this season.

"That isn't the way things are," insisted Peugeot boss Fredric St-Geours. "We formed a partnership with Alain Prost in order to win. In F1, victory goes to the team that is superior to the others in a combination of human, technical and financial ways, and the engine is a major factor in that combination.
"To have a better engine than our competitors, we need a new generation engine for the year 2000 - and that's all. Our objective is till to win the world championship as soon as possible."
