Prost Signs Heidfeld.

Although the move has been expected for the last week, Alain Prost finally signed F3000 champion Nick Heidfeld at Spa today [Friday].

The German will partner grand prix veteran Jean Alesi at the French team next year, and Prost has made sure that he has options on the future services of the youngster. The contract is initially for just a single season, pending Mercedes wishes for Heidfeld after 2000. The McLaren test driver replaces long-time Prost driver Olivier Panis, who is expected to move to either Arrows or Minardi next season.

"I am very happy to welcome Nick to the team today," said Prost, "With Jean Alesi, we have the perfect mixture of youth and experience. Nick will add an international dimension to the team - which is important for our partners.

"I want to take this opportunity to thank our two current drivers for all the hard work they have done. Jarno has been with us for two full seasons, and Olivier since the beginning of the Prost Grand Prix adventure. I want to thank him particularly for his loyalty. I wish them both all the very best in their future careers."
