Ferrari Look To Newey.
Following the announcement that Rory Byrne is to quit Ferrari next season, the Italian team is being linked with top technical director Adrian Newey.
The Englishman is currently under contract with the Scuderia's biggest rivals, McLaren, and is unlikely to be released to work at Maranello until his agreement expires in 2001, but this is not expected to stop Ferrari from approaching him. Newey is rated as one of the most successful technical men in recent F1 history, having been heavily involved with the multiple-title winning Williams and McLaren chassis this decade.

He was reportedly spotted enjoying lunch with both Luca di Montezemolo and Jean Todt at Ferrari's Ristorante Cavallino, in Maranello, in July, and the Italian team are expected to try and tempt him away from McLaren with a major financial offer.
Todt, however, has also described Byrne's impending departure as 'bullshit', claiming that both the South African and partner Ross Brawn are on long term contracts that will keep them at the team for several seasons.
