Hawaii Challenge Cancelled.
The hopes that former Champcar stars Jacques Villeneuve and Alex Zanardi had of competing against erstwhile rivals have been dashed by the cancellation of the Hawaii Superprix.
It had been suggested that the end-of-season, winner-takes-all, spectacular could re-unite Villeneuve and Zanardi with the type of car that brought them US titles had they been included as wild cards, although their entries remained far from certain. The speculation ended yesterday, however, when the event was scrapped after its promoters failed to provide the necessary funding to organisers CART.

The race was to have been run on the second weekend in November, and provide the highlight of a 'three-day extravaganza' including a charity ball and golf tournament.
