Enge Signs For Mclaren Junior Team.

Sometime Jordan test driver Tomas Enge has signed up to partner Stephane Sarrazin at McLaren's F3000 team in 2000.

The 23-year old Czech graduated to the F1 support series midway through the 1998 campaign, and has since impressed onlookers with his pace and finishing record. A best of second overall in tricky conditions at Magny-Cours last season helped persuade mutual sponsor Pilsner Urquell that he should have a run with Jordan, as well as convincing McLaren that he had the talent to graduate to its junior team for 2000.

"I'm very excited about Tomas joining us, and the entire McLaren F3000 team is looking forward to developing our relationship with him," said team manager David Brown, "He has a lot of F3000 experience and knows his way around the circuits, and I'm confident that he will make a significant contribution to the team."

The driver himself had no regrets about returning to the formula, despite his outings in the Jordan, and was excited about signing for one of its top teams.

"To join a team like McLaren F3000, and to become a part of the McLaren Mercedes Driver Support Programme puts me in a very competitive situation for my second full season in F3000," Enge said, "They have proven for the past two years that they are one of the leading teams in the F3000 paddock, and I'm looking forward to working with everybody. It's a fantastic opportunity, and I'm confident that we will be competing at the highest level."
