Jackie Stewart has promised that there is more to come from the new Jaguar R1, as the British team aims to better its fourth place in last season's world championship.


According to the Scottish team boss, there were many 'significant changes' made to the R1 in comparison with last year's Stewart SF-3, and these will be sufficient to bring about a major improvement in 2000.

According to the Scottish team boss, there were many 'significant changes' made to the R1 in comparison with last year's Stewart SF-3, and these will be sufficient to bring about a major improvement in 2000.


"There are significant changes in that car [the R1] that maybe you're not seeing at the moment, mainly because they're all under the skin," Stewart smiled, "But, believe me, there are enough changes to bring the kind of improvement we're looking for."


Johnny Herbert has regularly featured at the top of the timesheets in testing since the R1 was launched at the end of 1999, with team-mates Eddie Irvine and Luciano Burti backing him up on more than one occasion. Their performances have led to Stewart eyeing up a top three constructors' series finish and, although the Scot says that anything better would be unlikely, he refuses to rule out a better placing.
