We're safe, claims Imola.
Race organisers at the San Marino Grand Prix believe the event will survive any attempt to cut the number of races in Europe.
According to Britain's Motoring News, circuit chief Federico Bendinelli claims that he has had talks with the FIA about extending its contract, and that that will be enough to see the race keep its place on the calendar until at least 2006, despite the governing body threatening to reduce the number of European events to four in its argument with the EU.

''Bernie Ecclestone is a friend, and he likes Imola,'' Bendinelli insisted, ''I don't want to be arrogant, but we are one of the few 'pure' organisers left. I think we will have a race here until 2006. The [current] contract ends next year, but we are talking.''
Imola spent almost ?1million over the winter making the circuit safer, and hopes to see its investment rewarded.
