Toyota warned off Montoya.
Frank Williams has warned Toyota not to try and 'poach' Juan Pablo Montoya away from his Williams contract in an attempt to get the Colombian to spearhead the marque's initial Formula One campaign in 2002.
Williams have an option on the reigning Champ Car champion until 2002 and there is the possibility that the young superstar may be in line to replace Jenson Button at the end of the current season. Frank Williams is a known admirer of the young Columbian whose current contract with Chip Ganassi Racing expires at the end of this season.

Montoya currently races with Toyota engines in the C.A.R.T. series and narrowly failed to give the marque their first Champ Car win during Sunday's Firehawk 500 at the Motegi oval. If Williams wait until 2002 to take up thee option on Mintoya, Toyota may move in and attempt to make Montoya their number one driver. However Frank Williams recently said, ''Toyota couldn't use him [Montoya] unless they negotiated with Williams.''
