Jenkins mystery deepens.

Although the team has yet to officially announce it, paddock insiders firmly believe that Alan Jenkins has parted company with Prost.

The French outfit issued a hurried statement from Monaco on Thursday night, claiming that there had been no parting of the ways, but admitting that Jenkins would not be present in the Principality for yesterday's race. This revelation only served to fuel the rumour mill, which pointed out that the British designer had also been absent from the team's last test, and added to the speculation that he had, indeed, left.

Rumour has it that team boss Alain Prost was presented with an ultimatum by some of his senior engineers and members of the design team, which threatened a mass walk-out if Jenkins wasn't removed from the operation, after they felt he was criticising them and their work.

An official announcement from the team is awaited with interest.
