Team boss Peter Sauber acknowledged rumours that the Brazilian may drive for his team next year, but admitted that nothing would be decided until closer to the end of the current season. Mika Salo is likely to be Bernoldi's team-mate, as he is only in the first year of a two-season deal at Hinwil, leaving the erratic but well-funded, Pedro Diniz in the firing line.
The present incumbent's financial value to the team may yet outweigh his potential on the track, however.
