Jordan chases GM deal.

Following hot on the heels of his admission that he was chasing a works engine deal for the near future, Eddie Jordan is rumoured to have approached American giant General Motors about an F1 entry.

The Irishman has claimed in the past that he was happy to run customer engines and cause problems for the works-supported teams as an underdog, but revealed in Canada that he had been in discussion with several major manufacturers for some time, with a view to taking what he called 'a necessary step'.

The Irishman has claimed in the past that he was happy to run customer engines and cause problems for the works-supported teams as an underdog, but revealed in Canada that he had been in discussion with several major manufacturers for some time, with a view to taking what he called 'a necessary step'.

It has emerged that, among the names bandied about, Jordan is supposed to have to talked with Renault, Toyota and GM, with the latter having expressed a half-interest in pursuing an F1 path in the future. It is one of the two major manufacturing groups not represented in the top flight at present - VW-Audi is the other - and, having taken its first real steps at Le Mans, is now thought to be on the verge of inking an F1 deal.

Despite winning last weekend's 24 Hours, however, there is still no sign of an F1 involvement from VW-Audi.
