The parent company of the McLaren F1 team announced yesterday [Thursday] that it has appointed Nigel Carrington as managing director.

Nigel Carrington, 44, currently a member of the International Executive Committee of Baker & McKenzie, the global law firm, and formerly managing partner of its London office between 1994-1998 will become the MD of TAG McLaren Holdings with immediate effect.

TAG McLaren Holdings Limited is the holding company of the TAG McLaren Group which comprises a range of high-technology businesses in the automotive sector, including the McLaren Formula One team, TAG Electronics, McLaren Composites, TAG McLaren Marketing Services and McLaren Cars.

Carrington will work closely with Ron Dennis (who remains as chairman and group CEO) and the managing directors of the Group's various operating companies as it continues to develop and implement the strategy to keep it at the leading edge of its various businesses.

''Nigel's extensive international management and corporate finance experience will be invaluable to the TAG McLaren Group as we continue our rapid development as one of the UK's leading high-technology companies,'' Dennis commented.

Reflecting the increasingly broad role that Tim Murnane, currently the Group's head of legal affairs, had played in its development over recent years, it was also announced that he had been appointed as group director (legal and regulatory affairs) for the TAG McLaren Group.

All of the Group's managing directors and Tim Murnane will continue to report to Ron Dennis.
