Walker the Talker to miss French GP.

Murray Walker will miss his first grand prix for fifty years after dislocating his hip at last weekend's Goodwood Festival of Speed.

The so-called 'Voice of Formula One' has been an ever-present since before the days of the world championship, and was naturally disappointed to be advised to miss the Magny-Cours event by doctors who attended to him after the accident. Ironically, the 75-year old Walker had been riding one of his late father's motorcycles at Goodwood earlier in the day, but suffered his injury at his overnight accommodation.

''It is extremely disappointing,'' Walker admitted, ''I was simply trying to dust something off my shoe when I felt the hip go. Everything is back in place now, but the doctors have advised me to rest. I just have to accept the fact that I can't go to France this weekend.''

Martin Brundle is expected to lead the British commentary team in his team-mate's absence, and is likely to be partnered for the occasion by pit-lane regular James Allen.
