Villeneuve plans own driver development.
Hard on the heels of BAR's announcement that it will pilot a driver development scheme this season, come reports that Jacques Villeneuve is also planning to help aspiring grand prix stars.
While BAR's method is to give hopefuls the chance to run with it at test sessions, and be assessed on their fitness and technical feedback, the Canadian is apparently aiming to give young drivers the chance to experience the sort of physical sensations they could expect to feel if driving a Formula One machine.
Villeneuve is working with former Williams physiotherapist Erwin Gollner to develop a simulator to provide the necessary sensations, as well as offering the right fitness equipment to build physical stamina to the standards required by the sport.
Michael Schumacher and, latterly, David Coulthard have taken fitness levels in Formula One to new heights in recent seasons and, while Villeneuve himself is not reputed to be the greatest of trainers, the Canadian does appreciate the stamina levels needed to succeed at the top level. No date has been set for the launch of his scheme.
