Raikkonen gets green light.
Sources indicate that Kimi Raikkonen will be allowed to compete in Formula One next season, after the FIA granted him a superlicence in Monaco today.
The Finn has no F3 or F3000 experience behind him in a short racing career, but stormed to the British FRenault title this season, and attracted the attention of Swiss team Sauber. Successive test sessions with the C19 have shown that Raikkonen could turn in competitive times, but the FIA was reluctant to grant the necessary licence to a driver with just 23 competitive outings under his belt.

Testing in Jerez this week has re-inforced Raikkonen's claim, however, and the F1 Commission has now awarded him the necessary clearance to compete in 2001. Raikkonen will therefore line-up alongside former F3000 champion Nick Heidfeld at Hinwil next year, forming one of the youngest teams in Formula One.
