The Arrows F1 team has announced that Michael Ainsley-Cowlishaw has been appointed race team manager in place of the departed Steve Nielsen.
Ainsley-Cowlishaw joined Arrows just after the Christmas break, and is already looking forward to settling into his new role with the full support of the Leafield team. Well known and respected in Formula One, he has worked for Benetton since joining as a mechanic in 1980, and then progressing to the position of number one mechanic four years later. This role allowed him to work with the likes of world champions Nelson Piquet and Michael Schumacher. Since 1992, Ainsley-Cowlishaw has held the title of chief mechanic, during which time Schumacher won the first of his two world championships with the team.
"I'm really looking forward to being a part of such a growing team at Arrows," the optimistic newcomer commented, "It'll be a great new challenge, and I can't wait to get into it, start scoring points and, hopefully, win some races."
Arrows will be powered by the AMT-tuned former Peugeot engines in 2001, and is expected to re-sign drivers Jos Verstappen and Pedro de la Rosa. The new A22 is scheduled to run for the first time towards the end of the month, prior to its official launch in early February.
