Fiorano test - day 1: 21 February

Ferrari finished its preparations yesterday for the Australian GP with Michael Schumacher testing at Fiorano.

Michael Schumacher took to the track at 10 o'clock and finished work at 18.15. The world champion covered a total of 82 laps, with a best time of 1.00.518.

Schumacher also did 29 practice starts and seven pit-stops. The day's work centred on training the race team for various situations encountered in a race: the start, wheel changing and refuelling, as well as a rapid change of the car's nose section.

There will be no shakedown for the three F2001 which the Scuderia will use in Australia. They will be delivered to Malpensa airport from where they will be flown to Melbourne on Saturday 24th February.
