Basir Ismail to buy Sepang?

The Chairman of Malaysia Airports Holdings, Basir Ismail is according to reports in the press interested in buying the Sepang circuit for an undisclosed amount.

The Malaysian Business Times said that the lack of public support for the 2001 Malaysian GP might have prompted Ismail's interest in the acquisition.

Meanwhile the Sepang circuit has recently asked the government for a $13.2 million loan to stage local and international motor sports events to spark more interest in the sport from locals.
