Zonta to replace unwell Frentzen.

Ricardo Zonta received a surprise call-up from the Jordan team this morning, as it sought a replacement for Heinz-Harald Frentzen in the Canadian Grand Prix.

The German, still suffering from the after-effects of his crash in Monaco, had another heavy off in free practice yesterday [Friday] and complained of feeling unwell overnight. Similar symptoms forced him out of the pre-Canada test at Magny-Cours last week, and Frentzen will now fly home to Monaco to see a specialist.

Zonta will thus race for the first time since bowing out of Formula One with BAR at the end of the 2000 season. The Brazilian transferred to Jordan at the behest of common engine supplier Honda, and worked late into Friday night with the Jordan engineers to gain a full briefing on the EJ11's set up for the Circuit Gilles Villeneuve.

"I am sure it is a big disappointment for Heinz-Harald that he cannot race, but I really hope to do a good job for him and the Jordan team," Zonta said on hearing of his promotion to the race team, "In many ways this is more tough than competing in your first Grand Prix, but I must say I am very excited about getting into the car again to race!"

Frentzen hopes to be back in action for the first of two races in his homeland, at the Nurburgring in two weeks' time.
