Alex Yoong's manager, Simon Munger, speaks after Wednesday's Minardi test where Yoong ended the day with a best time more than three seconds adrift of his team-mate, Mark Webber.

"It was simply one of those days that nothing seemed to go right for Alex." Munger said. "It was a great learning curve for Alex as small problems all day meant that he was in and out of the pits without any good timed laps. To be fair to Alex, the car he was testing was the latest car to be delivered, the chassis PS02-02, which obviously meant that it had to go through the normal paces to iron out the little things that are not right."

Yoong, going into his second season with Minardi had clocked a 1m 23.468s lap whereas his team-mate, going into his first season in F1, flew with a 1m 20.261. "Alex never got into a rhythm and when he finally sorted out the car towards the end of the day, the team gave him his first set of new rubbers. He was going very well till the end when he spun. That was a 1m 21.5s lap according to the data." added Munger who was with Yoong in Barcelona yesterday.

Munger credited to Mark Webber's performance in the PS02-01 which placed him above Renault's Giancarlo Fisichella's 2002 Renault. "Mark is the sort of driver who drives the hell out of any car given to him. His performance today will definitely help Minardi move up and he has set a benchmark for Alex to aim at or better."

According to Munger, the Minardi Sporting Director John Walton and the rest of the team are very pleased with Yoong's performance nevertheless and Walton felt that Alex will be pushing harder in Melbourne's practices to be up there with Webber after the experience gained in Barcelona this week.
