"West Race Day" is a major competition open to the general public, which has been running throughout the summer, culminating with a drive in a West McLaren Mercedes MP4-16 Formula One car, the team's 2001 challenger.
The West Race Day competition is open to citizens of seven countries: Czech Republic, Slovakia, Russia, Poland, Slovenia, Hungary and Germany.
Although the final prize is a drive in a West McLaren Mercedes MP4-16, the competition is not intended as a talent spotting opportunity for budding racing drivers.
In fact, no one holding a Competition License is eligible to take part, as this would detract from the essential fun element of the competition.
Before the overall winner gets to drive the MP4-16, they will have taken part in a gruelling series of tests, which started back in June. Each of the participating countries has organised regional go-kart events, with approximately 15 competitors from each country going through to a national final. With such a unique prize on offer, interest has been phenomenal and the competition was heavily over-subscribed.
"Probably everybody who has been to a Grand Prix or watched it on television has wondered what it would be like to drive a Formula 1 car," explained Head of West Sponsoring Communications Pavel Turek. "Now one lucky winner will get that chance."
"When our driver Kimi Raikkonen came to Formula 1 in 2001, the main talking point was that he had very little experience in motor racing. However, his talent behind the wheel was immediately obvious to everyone and he passed his probationary period with flying colours, going on to more than justify his place with a top grand prix team. But even Kimi did not get from karts to Formula 1 as quickly as the winner of this competition."
Coulthard, Raikkonen and Wurz will form part of the final judging panel at the Brno event.
