Antonio Pizzonia has crashed his first Jaguar, but fortunately neither the young Brazilian or his three passengers were hurt in the incident, which followed the end of official Formula One testing at Barcelona's Circuit de Catalunya.

Pizzonia, who signed for Jaguar's F1 last month in place of Eddie Irvine, had endured a fruitless day of testing, but remained at the circuit to conduct passenger rides for the team's corporate guests. The accident occurred the end of the main straight on an otherwise empty circuit, but resulted in the Brazilian rolling over a tyre barrier after spinning at 155mph. The S-type sports car was a write-off, with heavy damage to the roof and side panels.

"From having seen the footage, it looks like he went into the first corner too fast and lost control of the car," team spokesman Nav Sidhu told the BBC, "Thankfully, everybody is okay, but they are all obviously a bit shocked."

Pizzonia and his passengers were taken to the circuit's medical centre, but later released with little more than bruising. The Brazilian is due to conduct tyre testing for the team into the weekend.

"Antonio will hopefully carry on tomorrow with some testing duties," Sidhu confirmed.
