After wet weather had blighted earlier track sessions, the Brazilian was pleased to find that Monday dawned bright and sunny, allowing him to complete 74 laps of the tricky venue before the team called time on its programme.

Barrichello, who included nine tours of Mugello's shorter layout among his total, recorded a best time of 1min 18.704secs during the day -almost two-and-a-half seconds inside his previous best at the test. The team concentrated on fine tuning various elements of the F2004 before returning to base at Maranello.

Testing continues tomorrow at the team's private Fiorano facility, with world champion Michael Schumacher taking over from his team-mate.
