Despite almost constant rain, Robert Doornbos successfully completed a one-day aerodynamic test programme with the Jordan team at Elvington airfield last Friday, in preparation for the forthcoming Brazilian Grand Prix.
In addition to running a shakedown with the sixth EJ14 chassis to be built by the Silverstone-based team, Doornbos was also involved in Jordan's first test of several newly designed parts for the 2005 season. The Dutchman, who made his first appearance as Jordan's Friday test driver in China, put in 61 straight-line runs in order to provide information on both the 2004 car and the team's interim 2005 spec model.
The 2005 car, which ran with the specified higher front wing, new bargeboards and a newly constructed rear wing, provided the 23-year old Doornbos with 30 runs before darkness set in.
"I'm happy to have been handed this opportunity to provide the team with important data for the forthcoming GP, as well as with their preparations for next year's car," he said, "Though I'd hoped to run in dry conditions, primarily in order to train my neck muscles under acceleration and braking, I still enjoyed a positive test in which I learned a lot. Not only could I spend more time and attention on all possible settings on my steering wheel, I also had a fine day out with my team of engineers and mechanics."
