Updated: Teams furious at Schumi 'tactics'.

Several teams have expressed their anger at what they believe was a deliberate attempt by Michael Schumacher and Ferrari to safeguard their pole position by blocking the circuit in the dying seconds of qualifying for the Monaco Grand Prix.

However, Schumacher has since hit back at the doubters, claiming that he made a simple error and was unable to reverse because he was unsighted, while he also suggested that maybe his critics should drive an F1 car themselves.

"I tried to get reverse but was hesitant to move and finally I stalled," he said in the press conference. "Whatever you do in certain moments, your enemies believe one thing or another. Some people may not believe it, but unfortunately that's the world we live in."

The German was in provisional pole position when on his final lap 'locked-up' around Rascasse and caught the barriers, something that left his car stranded on the penultimate corner.

With little room to manoeuvre around the Monaco circuit, Schumacher's incident caused championship rival Fernando Alonso, who was on a probable pole winning lap, to back off and have to settle for second place on the grid.

Although Schumacher insisted that there was nothing he could do, several teams are calling Ferrari a 'disgrace', with Flavio Briatorie in particular venting his anger on television at what he considers a deliberate ploy to keep Alonso off pole position.

Indeed, Briatore reiterated his feelings when talking to reporters, claiming that Schumacher was 'taking people for a ride' by claiming that his actions weren't a deliberate attempt to cause a yellow flag period.

"I think he is taking everyone for a ride," he said angrily. "Someone who is seven times a world champion wants us to believe that he didn't do it on purpose, it's fairyland. And given that we are not Snow White and the Seven Dwarves, I think that what he did was unsporting and against everything... It's really astonishing what he did. Incredible."

No protest from another team has yet been made but Schumacher has already been called in by officials to explain his actions making his pole position provisional for the moment.
