Toyota test driver Ricardo Zonta was forced to call time on his part in the Silverstone group test after being taken ill on the opening day.
Although scheduled to complete the three-day test on Thursday, the Brazilian's symptoms saw him complete just 50 laps at the wheel of the TF106B, leaving Franck Montagny to continue with the programme alongside Ralf Schumacher on day two. The Frenchman had been drafted in ahead of his expected confirmation as Renault-bound Zonta's replacement for 2007 as Jarno Trulli was otherwise engaged at a promotional appearance in Japan, but will now get more mileage than originally planned.
"Today's running went well, but I am fighting off the 'flu and it was hard to concentrate in the car with fever and cold symptoms," Zonta reported, "We lost some time in the morning due to this but, in the afternoon, I pushed hard in order to help the team collect the data they needed.
"I could not do as much balance work as we wanted to and, therefore, started the tyre testing straight away. Today was the final tyre test for Shanghai and, hopefully, tomorrow, Franck can carry on for me and the team can get a full day's testing in for the following races."
Zonta is the second Toyota driver to leave a test ahead of schedule in as many sessions, after Schumacher was forced to call time on his participation at Monza late last month.
