Ferrari were initially due to supply Red Bull Racing in the second year of a two year deal, but with the team looking to take an alternative option for the new season and agreeing a deal with Renault, the engine supply agreement with the Scuderia was terminated by mutual consent.

As a result, Red Bulls second team Toro Rosso will now take on the supply of customer engines in a two year deal starting in 2007, with the option to be extended for a further championship year.

"We are pleased to be embarking on a new long-term relationship with Scuderia Toro Rosso," Todt said. "It will allow us to strengthen our ties with the world of Italian motor sport and also to work with a team run by Gerhard Berger, our former driver and friend of Ferrari."

Should Vitantonio Liuzzi retain his drive with Toro Rosso for a second season, it would give Italian fans reason to cheer - with an Italian driver in an Italian team running under Ferrari power.

Spyker MF1 Racing will also use the Ferrari V8 engine in 2007.
