Barcelona test - day four: December 1.

Having started its programme at Catalunya a day later than anyone else, Toyota had the track all to itself on Friday as the first post-season Formula One test drew to a close at the Spanish circuit.

Race drivers Jarno Trulli and Ralf Schumacher were the two drivers once again out in action on a dry but cool day near Barcelona with the pair taking the chance during the day to continue working on the 2007 specification Bridgestone tyres, the testing of which had been a major part of the weeks work for the team's previously Michelin shod rivals.

Also working on a variety of different set-ups during the day, Trulli proved to be the quicker of the two drives posting a best time of 1min 15.936secs from his 83 laps, the Italian's lap being the quickest seen over the course of the four days of F1 running.

"The track temperature this morning was too cold to really do any useful running so we had to wait a bit for it to warm up," he said. "Once that happened we were able to resume where we left off yesterday and continue with our tyre testing programme. I had a positive impression of the new tyres and everything seemed to go well. We had a good and learned quite a bit."

Team-mate Schumacher worked through a similar programme, although his mileage for the day amounted to only 48 laps, with a best of 1min 15.976secs - also below the previous best of the week posted by Luca Badoer on Thursday, despite a few minor issues.

"We had a very good day yesterday but today was a bit more difficult as we had a few problems," he said. "Still, everything has been a little bit easier than I was expecting because I expected the new tyres to be a lot harder to drive. I have found in these two days that they are actually quite drivable. I must say I am positively surprised with the tyres. I am really happy with them, they are good for testing because you can go out every time and do a consistent lap time."

All-in-all, the session passed without any major issues for either driver, or Olivier Panis and Kamui Kobayashi who completed the opening day of running. With that in mind, chief race and test engineer Dieter Gass was happy with the weeks work.

"The team made some good progress in understanding the 2007 tyres and we're pleased with the consistent behaviour and performance we experienced throughout the week," he said. "We put in some quite quick lap times and the circuit was for sure in a very good condition after the three-day test this week, with a very high level of grip.

"Overall we are quite satisfied with the results we have achieved during this test but we still need to be working on improving reliability."
