Kubica: Alonso would not have 'fit' at BMW.

The pair may be close friends away from the race track, but Robert Kubica backed up Fernando Alonso's revelation that BMW-Sauber was 'never' a serious option for him for 2009 [see separate story - click here], by stating that the man from Oviedo would not have 'fit' at the Bavarian outfit in any case.

BMW's announcement that both Kubica and current team-mate Nick Heidfeld will be staying on-board next season closed another potential door to Alonso, who must now seemingly decide between present employers Renault, Honda and possibly Scuderia Toro Rosso.

Whilst BMW Motorsport Director Dr Mario Theissen has been one of many to express his admiration for the former double Formula 1 World Champion in recent months, Kubica reckons the combination of the fiery Spaniard and the Munich and Hinwil-based concern's calmer and more methodical way of going about things may not necessarily have sat easily together.

"I think Fernando was never convinced about going to BMW," the Pole stated in an interview with German newspaper Bild. "From the beginning I was not able to imagine it. There is a difference in mentality. I simply had the feeling that he would not fit here."

Kubica - who will begin this weekend's Japanese Grand Prix at Fuji Speedway from directly behind Alonso in sixth position on the grid - did, however, acknowledge that he would relish the opportunity of one day teaming up with the 20-time grand prix winner in the top flight.

"That would become very interesting," the 23-year-old - tipped as a future title-winner himself - admitted. "Alonso is the only of us that was able to beat Schumi (Michael Schumacher) twice in the world championship. Our joint wish is to go one day together in a team."
