Guy Martin joins Williams F1 pit crew for Belgian GP
Guy Martin is trading the world of road racing for a taste of Formula 1 when he joins the Williams Martini Racing squad as part of its pit crew for the Belgian Grand Prix.
Martin, who returned to the international road racing scene this year with Honda Racing, will act as an extra mechanic to the Williams squad at Spa-Francorchamps this weekend and take part in a complete F1 round for the Grove-based squad.
Guy Martin is trading the world of road racing for a taste of Formula 1 when he joins the Williams Martini Racing squad as part of its pit crew for the Belgian Grand Prix.
Martin, who returned to the international road racing scene this year with Honda Racing, will act as an extra mechanic to the Williams squad at Spa-Francorchamps this weekend and take part in a complete F1 round for the Grove-based squad.
Starting at the Williams’ base before the race, Martin will be run through the tasks he’ll be required to do during the Belgian Grand Prix. He will then travel to Spa-Francorchamps to help set-up the garage before working with the Williams mechanics to build its FW40 cars.
According to Williams, Martin will work on every free practice session, qualifying and the race. To complete the experience, Martin will also assist on the 10-hour session to strip down the cars, garage and pack everything away in preparation for the Italian Grand Prix the weekend after.
Martin joins the team which currently holds the record for the fastest pit stop of the 2017 season so far of 2.02-seconds which was set during the British Grand Prix.
