In the latest report from FIA technical delegate Jo Bauer, it was confirmed that Red Bull had taken a new internal combustion engine and MGU-H on Verstappen's power unit, triggering a 15-place grid drop for the Dutchman at COTA.
Verstappen joins Stoffel Vandoorne (five places), Nico Hulkenberg (20 places) and debutant Brendon Hartley (25 places) in taking a grid penalty for this weekend's race, resulting in another shaken-up grid following a litany of changes at the last race in Japan.
