The French driver, who was also denied a Super Formula title tilt last weekend when a Typhoon cancelled the season finale, has completed a total of just 12 laps of the Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez heading into the Mexican GP after missing FP1 with Sean Gelael given driving duties.

An engine issue in the Friday afternoon session stalled his progress before his FP3 session was ended before it really began.

Gasly will now need permission from the FIA to start from the back of the grid for Sunday's race.
