The 2017 season finale in Abu Dhabi marks the end of Liberty Media’s first year in control of F1 with a number of changes being trialled with the aim of encouraging fresh investment and interest in the sport after the Bernie Ecclestone era.
While some of the new ideas have received a mixed reception, including the F1 drivers entrance at the United States Grand Prix, Liberty’s ideas have been met with positivity by teams and drivers. Liberty’s new logo plan has been installed to “provide a fresh energy to the sport, the new logo was a great way to emphasise that,” according to Carey who joined Sky Sport F1’s commentary team during FP1 in Abu Dhabi.
Last week three log designs when submitted to the European Union’s Intellectual Property Office which was met with negative feedback on social media with the majority of fans preferring the existing logo.
It isn’t known which design of the three or a new version will be selected but Carey hinted at the new logo being unveiled immediately after the 2017 season finale.
Sky Sports F1 also alluded to new live coverage of some of the 2018 pre-season testing, last produced during 2013 winter testing, in order to increase coverage of the sport ahead of the new season. Full testing coverage plans were not released with the finer details expected to be confirmed during the off-season.
