Mercedes - which has claimed four successive F1 drivers’ and constructors’ titles - picked up the Laureus Award at the fourth attempt, beating competition from France’s Davis Cup team, the Golden State Warriors, the New England Patriots, New Zealand’s America’s Cup team and Spanish football giants Real Madrid.
Mercedes boss Toto Wolff received the award on behalf of his team at a ceremony held in Monaco, with the German manufacturer currently conducting pre-season testing in Barcelona ahead of the upcoming campaign.
Lewis Hamilton was nominated for World Sportsman of the Year but missed out to twenty-time tennis grand slam champion Roger Federer.
