Toro Rosso confirmed in the lead-up to qualifying that Hartley would be unable to take part in qualifying due to the damage caused to his car, requiring several hours of repairs that could not be completed in the two-hour window following FP3.
Hartley will start the Spanish Grand Prix last on Sunday as a result, requiring permission from the stewards to start the race as he technically will fail to qualify. This will be granted as a result of the New Zealander setting a representative time in practice.
