Gasly slams British GP F1 stewards for ‘bullshit’ penalty

Pierre Gasly has hit out at Formula 1’s “bullshit” penalty system after the Toro Rosso driver was stripped of his points finish at the British Grand Prix.

Gasly clashed with Force India’s Sergio Perez at Vale in the closing stages of Sunday’s race as the pair squabbled over the final point on offer at Silverstone. The Frenchman ultimately came out on top in the battle and crossed the line in 10th.

But following a post-race investigation, British GP stewards deemed Gasly had gained the position unfairly and subsequently handed out a five-second time penalty, costing him a third points finish of the season as he dropped to 13th.

Gasly took to social media to voice his displeasure at receiving the penalty, which he labelled as “ridiculous”.

"Five second penalty, ridiculous,” he wrote on Twitter.

“Every weekend there are contacts with no further action, that's part of racing & what makes it exciting! Was close battle, I enjoyed it.

"Just let us race and stop all this bullshit with penalties! Will keep fighting.”

Gasly also received two penalty points on his F1 superlicence, moving him onto four. Drivers who accumulate 12 penalty points over the course of a 12-month period face a one-race ban.
