Haas 'much more stable' than McLaren, says Magnussen
Kevin Magnussen has praised Haas' stability after enjoying his strongest start to a Formula 1 season in 2018, spearheading the American team's charge to fifth place in the constructors' championship at the summer break.
Magnussen remained with Haas for 2018, avoiding a change in teams through the off-season for the first time in his racing career, and is currently on-course for his strongest F1 campaign to date.
Magnussen raced for McLaren through 2014 before spending a year on the sidelines in a reserve role with the team. He returned to racing in 2016 with Renault, only to leave after one season and move to Haas.
"My first couple of years in F1 were tumultuous. They were really messy, changing teams, having a year off and coming back in and struggling again with the team," Magnussen said.
"Now I’ve found some consistency, a more consistent place to get into the whole thing again and building up. I feel like I’m back at a good level."
Asked to compare the smaller Haas operation to McLaren, Magnussen praised the stability of his current team and the atmosphere it helps create.
"Haas is much more stable as a team. Not only more simple, but very stable - you don’t get people on the way out or on the way in," Magnussen said.
"In the other teams, I saw a lot of people insecure about their positions in the team and worrying about that position. That creates a bad atmosphere and culture in the team.
"Here, there is a lot of stability – the management and most people here feel good and secure. We are under pressure, but it’s much more healthy kind of pressure."
