Pierre Gasly has described his British Grand Prix as “by far the best weekend of the year” as he enjoyed a breakthrough weekend for Red Bull.
The French driver followed up a strong start to his Silverstone weekend, having topped FP1, with fourth place following the late clash between Max Verstappen and Sebastian Vettel which promoted him up two spots.
Having secured his best Formula 1 result since he also took fourth place at the 2018 Bahrain Grand Prix with Toro Rosso, Gasly credited major overhauls in his Red Bull setup, running a closer configuration to teammate Max Verstappen, while also making key working process adjustments to his race weekends.
“By far the best weekend of the year so we can be pleased. There were quite a lot of things going on after Austria, a lot of meetings with the team checking the whole weekend and how to improve things,” Gasly said.
“I think there are so many things that made it possible, it wasn’t like one big thing, it was many little things to sort out and to maximise.
“It is still not perfect but I think we did a massive step forward in every area. We still need to find that extra, final step to make it to the podium but the whole weekend was strong.”
