WATCH: AlphaTauri’s 2021 F1 challenger makes track debut at Imola
Watch Pierre Gasly and Yuki Tsunoda’s first outing in the all-new AlphaTauri AT02 Formula 1 car at a filming day at Imola last month.
AlphaTauri was the second team to launch its 2021 car ahead of the season, only after McLaren.
The AT02 maintains the same colours it used in 2020 with a slight revision.
Six days after unveiling its new car, AlphaTauri completed a shakedown at the Autodromo Enzo e Dino Ferrari in Northern Italy on February 25.
As permitted by the F1 regulations, teams are allowed to complete 100km of running on Pirelli demonstration tyres.
This handed Gasly and rookie Tsuonda a brief taste of 2021 machinery ahead of pre-season testing which finally gets underway on Friday in Bahrain.
Tsuonda had already tested Toro Rosso’s 2019 STR14 earlier in February as the Japanese driver makes the step up from Formula 2 after an impressive first season.
The 20-year-old finished the season third in the standings, just 15 points behind eventual champion and Haas F1 driver Mick Schumacher.
2020 was the Faenza-based team's strongest season to date in terms of points scored.
Gasly and Daniil Kvyat scored 107 points on the team’s way to seventh in the constructors’ championship.
The Frenchman took a memorable win at the Italian Grand Prix at Monza - the team’s second in Italy after winning there in 2008 with Sebastian Vettel.
Looking ahead to pre-season testing, Gasly will give the AT02 its first extended run out on day one before handing over to Tsuonda in the afternoon session on Friday.
