F1 pre-season testing 2021: Who's driving on Day 3 in Bahrain?
The third and final day of Formula 1 pre-season testing in Bahrain takes place today.
Despite a spin for seven-time world champion Lewis Hamilton in the morning, Mercedes made some progress on day two following its troubled start to 2021 as Valtteri Bottas went quickest.
Lap times tumbled on the second day of running as conditions cooled around the Bahrain International Circuit on Saturday afternoon, with a number of drivers including Bottas, AlphaTauri’s Pierre Gasly and Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc sampling Pirelli’s softest C5 compound for the first time.
McLaren continued its impressive start to pre-season as Lando Norris ended the day fourth in the timesheets on the harder C4 compound, while Fernando Alonso made his anticipated return to action in Alpine’s new-look A521, logging a mighty 127 laps on his first outing since breaking his jaw in a cycling accident last month.
After sitting out the first two days of running as Roy Nissany and Nicholas Latifi got to grips with Williams’ updated 2021 car, George Russell will make his first appearance of pre-season testing on Sunday by getting a full day of track action under his belt in the FW43B.
