The Azerbaijan Grand Prix has been suspended due to a crash for race-leader Max Verstappen after a tyre blowout.

Verstappen had been leading comfortably with just a few laps remaining in Baku when his left-rear tyre suddenly gave way along the main straight, causing him to crash out and slam into the wall at high-speed.

Verstappen was unhurt in the incident but has suffered a huge blow to his championship hopes, having been looking to seal a Red Bull 1-2 that would have increased his points lead over Lewis Hamilton to 15 before his crash.

It was the second tyre failure of the race, after Aston Martin's Lance Stroll crashed out on Lap 31 when his left-rear blew along the start-finish straight.

The race is currently suspended and is set to be restarted.

Sergio Perez was leading at the time of the red flag, ahead of Hamilton and Aston Martin's Sebastian Vettel.
