Formula 1 heads to the Hungaroring for the final race before the summer break.
The title race is finely poised after Lewis Hamilton and Max Verstappen came to blows on the opening lap of the British Grand Prix last time out.
Red Bull’s appeal was ultimately unsuccessful so attention turns to this weekend.
Described as ‘Monaco without the barriers', the Hungaroring is tight, twisty and very difficult to overtake.
Based on Monaco, Red Bull and Ferrari will be fancying their chances of a strong result, while Mercedes is expected to take a step backwards.
Although, Hamilton has an impeccable record in Hungary, winning on eight previous occasions.
What to expect from this weekend?
Pirelli has nominated the C2, C3 and C4 tyres for this weekend’s race.
Conditions are expected to remain dry on Friday, while there is a significant chance of rain on Saturday.
Ahead of the weekend, Pirelli’s Mario Isola said: “Tyre-wise, we’re not expecting any particularly big surprises from the Hungaroring, which has been a constant on the calendar and signals the end of the first half of the season. The defining characteristic of the track are all the tight corners in quick succession, with no long straights to cool down the tyres, and hot weather. This makes the Hungaroring actually more demanding on tyres than it initially seems, so some degree of management is likely to be needed on the soft compound in particular. As a result, the best strategy is not always obvious – with different approaches often yielding a similar overall race time, depending on the individual circumstances. That’s why we’ve often seen some tactically intriguing races at the Hungaroring, keeping the final result in doubt right up to the end and providing an interesting challenge for the engineers.”
