Mazepin to miss Qatar FP2 due to F1 chassis change
Nikita Mazepin will not take part in second Formula 1 practice for the Qatar Grand Prix after sustaining damage in FP1.
The damage has forced Haas to change his chassis meaning he’s forced to sit out the second session.
It’s crucial track time lost for Mazepin with the second session taking place under the lights, making it more representative of the conditions likely for qualifying and the race.
The Russian ended FP1 20th in the classification, just under a second shy of Haas teammate Mick Schumacher.
Despite the low kerbs, the Losail International Circuit is proving to be a real challenge for the cars.
Lando Norris’s wide moment at Turn 15 triggered an “emergency switch” on his McLaren, while an off for Fernando Alonso damaged the floor and underside of his car.
Seven-time F1 champion Lewis Hamilton also picked up front wing damage at Turn 15.
